Sad propellor-heads amongst you may have noticed that I send my email from an alien machine ™ in fact a computer designed and constructed in the UK. Acorn have been building 32-bit RISC machines since 1988. Their latest, the StrongARM RiscPC, outperforms the PentiumPro and also has a more efficient OS and application software. These figures are based on the 200 MHz machine: faster 300 - 400 MHz chips are expected soon. However, sadly, Acorn has ceased development of its workstations.
| Dhrystone 2.1: iterations | Dhrystone MIPS | |
|---|---|---|
| Risc PC 700 | 55k | 32MIPS |
| DX2-66 PC / PCI bus | 40k | 23MIPS |
| P200 PC / PCI bus | 295k | 169MIPS |
| StrongARM Risc PC | 356k | 204MIPS |
